St.Matteo’s Museum

July 2nd, 2011 by VisitPisa

Since 1949 the museum is situated inside an ancient Benedictine monastery. Despite the relevance of the works of art preserved inside (the museum is one of the most important medieval museums in Europe), S.Matteo is quite unknown to the public.

Inside the Museum, you can find a great collection of paintings which belongs to the Italian Trecento and Quattrocento. Among those paintings, we find great authors such as Simone di Martini, Masaccio and Beato Angelico. It is also worth to mention the relevance of the sculptures made by Nicola, Andrea and Nino Pisano and the ceramic basins, made by Pisan and Islamic artists.

The tour aims to guide you through the important art collections preserved in a context, the old monastery, which is a work of art itself.
